"But even if we don't have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there."
I chose to read the perk of being a wallflower as my first material of my personal project.
Charlie, a introvert, started his freshman life in senior high school. He tried to step out his comfort zone. Then he made friends with Patrick and his sister, Sam, getting to know what it felt like to have friendships and to have a place to belong to. During their senior high school life, they had a quarrel. They were lost and confused about love, trying to figuring out what love is was.
What they experienced is what we have experience or is experiencing, too. In that book, everyone had their own story and their own struggle. I appreciated Sam the most. She used to be sexually assaulted by a friend of her father. That was her darkest secret hidden deeply in her heart. However, she didn't be beaten down. Her life didn't be affected because of it. What's more, it became her motivation to live a better life, and she did do something to her life, instead of being all mouth and no trouser. We may have tough time and struggle. Some people may be dragged down, living a worse life. Some, however, take effort to get rid of the tough time, just like Sam. I don't know whether I would be as brave as Sam is if I were she, but I wish I would. She still believed in love though she experienced bad thing. Her character reminds me that we should remember that there is always hope no matter how worse a life is. Be positive!
