Log #4

A midsummer night’s dream is a story written by William Shakespeare. It is mainly about a love story between 2 couples where they do not know who they really love.

When I finish reading this story, I was satisfied with the happy ending where the girls both married the person they want. However, when I think deeper into the details and the lines of the tale, I started to have a feeling of satire. I think it has an intention of satire towards the perspective of self identity.

First, it talks about how their lovers are changed by the magical juice of the flower love-in-idleness. It may sound really interesting and funny to some people, but in my opinion, I think this is a situation where people lost their self identity. I’m not sure of the society at the time is pressed or not, but nowadays we sometimes have large pressure on us that we can’t really be ourselves. We might not be showing the true us to the people. For example, we sometimes cater to people because we are afraid that people might dislike us. This is a common situation we saw in our everyday life not only in the relationships but also in the comments we usually saw on the internet.

In conclusion, I think it is really hard to stand out and be ourselves in such a generation where people look on to you and judge you every day, but what we can do is to change how we think and not to be influence by the society in a bad way.
