I have to reclaim that Catching Fire is my favorite novel! Compared to other two of series, Catching Fire makes me feel lots of contradiction. At first, I have to admit that I didn't like Katniss because of her complex relationship with Peeta and Gale. I couldn't understand why one can deal with her romance in such a messy way. Not only does she hurt Gale but also Peeta. She didn't know which one to choose. Sometimes she feels she cannot leave Gale while other time she thinks Peeta is the one who can give her comfort. Her indecision makes three of them including Katniss herself very painful. Though I am not the love expert, I still can't agree with her behavior. She needs to make the decision between either Peeta or Gale. However, I soon found out I was wrong. The reason why keeps Katniss indecisive is that she is only a seventeen-year-old girl who is forced to join a brutal game. When I was her age, I couldn't have stood this if I were her. She deserves to have a happy life; instead, she needs to face a great number of conspiracies made by President Snow. Surrounded by such adversity, how could she manage to figure out her romance issue?
I personally regard the arena as life. Although there is no rule of killing people, I think what happens in the arena can actually be attached to life. I especially love what Katniss said: At some point, you have to stop running and turn around and face whoever wants you to dead. The hard thing is finding the courage to do it. There are lots of things that don't in our favor. They may be someone who hates you or something that makes you feel helpless. Nevertheless, none of the things would disappear if you choose to shrink back. Thus, the best thing to do is embrace them. I used to be a girl tending to avoid difficulties. Whenever I had encountered things I couldn't accomplish, I would turn to my parents. But I have become more mature after being a college student living in Taipei alone. Living in Taipei means I need to handle each thing taking place in my daily life by myself, and I gradually realize that there are always obstacles put in front of me whether I like them or not. So I should fight them rather than escape.
There are still many metaphors of the society in this book worthy of being discussed. This is the most reason why I love it. A good book can not only entertain but also have great influence on its readers and most importantly it can change the world.
