Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer
by John Grisham
Pages: 156-263(finish)

In the second part of this book, the plot becomes tenser and more exciting. When reading, I could feel Theodore's suffering through those words describing his sleepless nights, low appetite, unsolvable problem, and dilemma between the justice and his promise. It's much more than a thirteen-year-old child can stand. However, Theodore dealt with it well; he tried his best to keep his promise of not revealing Bobby's identity, the illegal secret witness. And he finally turned to his family for help; then the Bonnes worked together to help Bobby and his family. In the end of the story, the judge sentenced a mistrial. The prosecutor would have a secret witness in the following trial to accuse Mr. Duffy of the murder, and it seemed that there was nothing more to do with the Bonnes.

I was a little disappointed that Theodore didn't really work as a real court lawyer; instead, he's more like a detective with lots of knowledge of laws. But it's enough. Actually I couldn't expect a real kid lawyer, right?

Except for this little dissatisfaction, I quite enjoyed the book. My heart was in my mouth especially  when it mentioned that the despicable and evil Mr. Cheepe, a person described as " an armed thug" and "a man who enjoyed breaking the law", found the Boones and the judge's secret meeting. I worried that Mr. Cheepe would discover their secret and take action first. Fortunately it's too late; I thought Mr. Cheepe's client Mr. Duffy would definitely be sent to the jail in the next trail! Maybe Mr. Cheepe would appear in the following series because the author spent pages to describe him while he did nothing pushing the story. It was a pity to this character for he could orginally do more.

In the process of my reading, my mindset changed from just finishing the homework to wanting to know more: how would Theodore do next, how would Mr. Cheepe react, and what would happen. Reading is something interesting if the story is appealing. Now, I am going to read the next series of Theodore Bonne!
