The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
Author: Arthur Conan Doyle
In
my opinion, the stepfather was selfish. In order to spend his stepdaughter's
great income, he spared no efforts to deceive her, without considering her
future. Unfortunately, there was no law to punish him. That's a problem
existing in the modern society as well. Some bad things happen, but no laws can
stop them. Laws might not prevent any crimes, but we can't deny that laws are
the most effective way.
Even
though it wasn't illegal, Sherlock still humiliated the mischievous stepfather
in his way, which shows his sense of justice. However, it was a pity that
Sherlock decided not to tell the daughter the fact because he thought that she
wouldn't believe him in light of the deep love she gave to the fake gentleman.
"You see all these isolated
facts, together with many minor ones, all pointed in the same direction.” I think it is the
most suitable statement that describes how Sherlock solves a case. It is a
well-known fact that Sherlock is good at observation, which I admire most. He
not only observes things but also comprehends the information and then finds
out crucial clues to break cases, which makes him the greatest detective ever.
