From
this week, I start to read
Tales from Shakespeare. I think it is really interesting but hard to understand
the meaning behind each story. However, I still my own feelings toward them.
The first one I read about is The Tempest. It is about how Prospero, a former
Duke of Milan, had forgiven his brother for betraying him.
I really admire
Prospero because he chose to forgive instead of torturing his
betrayed brother, Antonio. In the beginning of the story, it tells us that
Prospero had the ability to perform magic. That is why he made up a storm to
take Antonio to where he is. When Antonio appears, Prospero could actually give
him some attack or torturing since Antonio had betrayed him and caused him to
left his own country. He did not do that, though. Instead, he chose to forgive
him and marry his daughter to Prince Ferdinand, the son of Antonio. From this
point of view, I think we all need to learn to forgive, just like Prospero who
left the hatred behind his head and buried the hatchet.
Aside from
admiring Prospero, I also think he is brave. He and Antonio made up with each
other, but he cannot know how Antonio really thinks. Antonio may think about
how he will kill Prospero when they get back to his dukedom or how should he made
Prospero disappear. In my opinion, it is really hard to forgive someone who
betrays you and have the desire to kill you. Thus, I think Prospero is really
brave to have such an action to go back with his brother.
