Log #3

Title of the Book: Left Neglected

Author: Lisa Genova
Page read: 1~113

This novel caught my eyes while I was searching for another novel that I had in my mind in the bookstore. Immediately, I fall in love with its beautiful dark blue cover and enhanced by its uncommon name, Left Neglect. I read the very first chapter, and I liked it, so I walked out the bookstore with the novel in my hand instead of the original plan.
This novel is about Sarah, a hard-working, consulting-firm executive and a mother of three young children. One day, when she drove to work without dropping the children at daycare, her mind was spinning with her endless to-do list and she was a bit distracted and lost her attention for a vital instant. Then the car accident happened. Later on, Sarah figured that she had traumatic brain injury and she has lost all the awareness of anything on her left – which is called Left Neglect.

Before I read this book, I have never even heard of Left Neglect, which is a condition also known as hemispatial neglect. The story about Sarah definitely opened my eyes and taught me about this condition which I previously had absolutely no idea about. I think it was very interesting to learned about the main character, Sarah, both before and after her accident and know the impact that her condition had not only on herself but also with the people around her, too.
