“When
I’m gone you’ll have nothing.” This is what Nana told to Mariam before Mariam
left her to meet Jalil, Mariam’s father. We always take the love our true
friends someone who cares about us gives for granted, but we only see little
kindness strangers or fake friends offer. As a result, we easily believe what
we shouldn’t take but forget what we shouldn’t lose. Just as Mariam risking the
life of Nana, she still turns back to her dear mother and try to meet Jalil for
a broken promise. At the beginning, my mind follows Mariam’s one because I think
Jalil loves Mariam truly and should at least come out to see her when Mariam
stays outside his mansion. Nonetheless, not only does Jalil let her sleep along
the street but also sends her back with force. When it occurred to me that Nana
commits suicide because of Mariam’s leave, my heart really sank to the bottom
of my heart. It stroke me for almost three days.
Tragic
story seems to have no happy ending until the very end. After Jalil forces her
to marry Rasheed, she is only fifteen years old. When I was 15, the only responsibility
of mine is studying hard. However, as a wife, she needs to serve her husband,
cook for him and listen to his complaints. Under such social pressure on
female, Mariam still make effort to get accustomed to this completely different
Daily routine. But tragedies not seem to come alone. Nana’s death become a
shadow chasing behind Mariam after Mariam loses her first baby. At that time, I
think it’s just an accident for the couple. But they lose their children for a
row of 7 times. It is definitely a huge pain and pressure for Mariam to
undergo.
In
these 15 Chapters, the writer also mentioned that there seems to be a war to
explode. I really curious about how the plot would go.
