Brett finally finish another thing on her list. She owned her pet, Rudy now. She was truly happy (me too!). Everything seems to go on the right track. In the previous chapters, Brett thought that she was pregnant with Andrew’s baby. However, everything changed after she found a bright red stain drip on to the floor. Frustrated as she was, she still didn’t miss the celebration her family have for Christmas. On the Christmas party, she got a phone call from someone. Surprisingly, it was her dad, real dad, Johnny. Johnny had his own family and his music shop. Even worse, he had a daughter. He refused to let Brett meet him in Seatle, instead, he promised Brett that he’ll find her in Chicago. 

At the same time, Brett’s brother Joad started to question her right to live in their mother’s house. Brett had no choice but start to find another place to stay. Gladly, she did find a simple apartment at last. Brett’s student Sanquita was in her third month of pregnant, however, Sanquita was not in a good condition. Her doctor Ms. Chan suggested her abort the fetus, but Sanquita refused. Sanquita even said something offensive to Brett, which made her recall the memory of her blood stain. Also, Brett still had some problem with Peter, the student who made her feel hard to teach. Although Brett tried so hard to get along with Peter and even bought him books to win his heart, Peter tore the book into pieces in front of Brett, which made her heart-broken. 

Brett decided to talk to Dr. Garret Taylor, Peter’s doctor for help. She asked him out for a drink. On her way to the date, she got a phone call from Joshua House. Someone told her that Sanquita was bleeding, it seems that something’s wrong with her baby. As a result, Brett had to miss the date with the doctor and take care of the girls in Joshua House. However, she forgot to call Taylor. Happily, Taylor forgave her. By the way, Brett finally had her new apartment. On the other hand, her brother Jay arranged a blind date for her. Brett was about to refuse when she got her father’s call saying that he welcome her to visit him and explained why he didn’t agree with Brett’s visit at first. 

With good mood, Brett accepted the blind date with Herbert Moyer. Happily, Herbert seemed to be a great man and their relationship was getting better. One day before the date of Brett and Herbert, Brett got a call from Jean, a woman from the Joshua House. She told Brett that Sanquita was about to give birth to a baby. Brett called Herbert and canceled their date immediately. When Sanquita’s baby finally came to this world safely, Sanquita was not in a good condition. She asked Brett to take good care of her baby, Brett agreed sadly… 

It is really sad that our part for this week stops in this heart-breaking place. I really like how Brett persevered when people around her didn’t believe that she could really win the girl’s heart. For me, I can see that Brett’s mother really predicted Brett’s future correctly. Although in the process of completing the list sometimes made Brett miss her mother a lot, Brett could be distracted from the grief. I think that is her mother’s strategy. Maybe in the following paragraph, Herbert and Brett could finally be together and they can live happily ever after!
