Log #8

Book: The Life List
Author: Lori Nelson Spielman
Pages: 167-271

In those pages I read this week, Brett got a dog and accomplish one thing from the list, and she named the dog Rudy. However, there is a problem because her brother, Joad, was somehow blaming her living in their mother’s house, so she decided to move out. It will be difficult to find a cheap apartment that allowed the dog to live in though. Unexpectedly, Brett found one.
A day at her mother’s house, Brett almost have a physical relationship with Brad since he had a problem with Jenna, his girlfriend, at the time, but Brett stopped sanely. Later on, Brad and Jenna solved their problems and got together again. After that, she had a small impact on the Dr. Garrett, a doctor of her student, but it just went nothing after all. Under the introduction of her brother, Jay, Brett got to know a guy named Herbert Moyer. They were having a good relationship now.
Sanquita, a student of Brett, had an unhealthy body, and it is almost the day for her to give birth, but a doctor suggested her to take the baby out so that she can be heal. Sanquita refused. At last, she was gone with the baby left to Brett.
On the other, there was also good news. Brett finally met her father, Johnny Manson, and found out she got a sister of twelve, whose name is Zoë.

As I reading through the pages, I was kind of confused. The reason is that I thought Brett was going to be with Brad because they had a really good relationship, and everything just seen so well-going and set, and her list would be easily done within a year. However, the results surprised me at first since they had no chance to get together, but when I got back to the truth, if I can predict what actually happened when I was not even at half of the book, what is the point of the author being one since anyone of us can predict her story? Then, I believed there must be a surprising outcome at last.

There was a part where Brett thought Johnny Manson would not want to make her meet with Zoë. That is the part that I felt sad about. The reason is that the words of description of Brett’s feelings are so suitable and touching that I can feel how Brett actually feels. However, when she finally met her father and sister, she found out that it was not like how she had thought. She just thought too much. I think sometimes I was like that too. It is a small reminder to me not to think too much of how people think.

Most of all, the story, in my perspective, is leading us to see how Brett is changing her life style and how she pursues her dreams. From the pages, I could see that Brett had changed from a depressed girl to one changing back to how she originally is.
