The Girl on the Train
Paula Hawkins Page: 204-300
Megan is found dead. Buried in the woods and washed out by the rain, Megan is dead. Scott is the suspect for the murder, for they were witnessed fighting over something with each other during the night Megan disappeared. Besides, if Megan has an affair, it could the motive of Scott's cruel kill. Then, thing goes out of control--the fact that Megan killed her baby ten years ago is revealed by the newspapers. Rachel somehow believes this--believes that Megan is not a happy and carefree girl she imagines. Next, Rachel decides to help Scott find the real murderer. She goes to Kamal for therapy and tries to find any clues from him. However, she found she likes Kamal and that she really get help from the therapy. Kamal is so kind that he seems to be anyone but a killer. Several days after, a drunk Rachel goes to accompany a drunk Scott, and then they have a sex. Waking up, Rachel found Scott doesn't behavior as a husband whose wife is dead less than a month; at least he cannot have a sex on Megan and his bed. So, who on earth is the murderer?
Rachel is a poor woman who loses herself. She envies Megan and Scott; they are a happy couple. However, when she finds Megan could be a killer, she is excited. She takes her as a liar, a cheat. Megan is not any longer a loving wife, even a good person. Rachel feels superior to Megan, once her model and once the one she wanted to become. It doesn't make sense to compare with a stranger and find confidence from her. Maybe Rachel doesn't get confident; she just knows that she isn't the worst one and feels better. Rachel is also a women longing for love. She loves Tom; she wants to get closer to Kamal; she stayed in Scott's house. I think she needs men. She needs a man to rely on, to feel not so worthless, and to devote herself to. Rachel couldn't find herself a position.
I guess Scott should be the killer. Besides, the author might reveal more connection between Rachel, Megan, and Anna. I hope in the end of the story, Rachel could wake and get herself some goals for life, for sometimes I would feel what Rachel feels, finding nothing to do and nothing worthy of looking forward to. I will get over it on my own, so I hope Rachel could, too. Be confident, be brave, be optimistic, and everything will be better.
