Log #1

"Carol" is adapted from the novel "The price of salt." I chose this book because seen the film, I was deeply moved by the film. Todd Haynes is the film's director who uses of many scene changes depicts the feelings between the characters and attention to every detail. This gay film with the past is quite different, this is purely portrayed in the story of two people who love each other. After watching the film I began to search for “the price of the salt” original novel written by Patricia Highsmith. This novel inspired by the true story of her life. But the ending reality and fiction are very different.

The reason I would choose this novel to read, not only because seen the movie that knows about comparative development of the plot but the reason I am a lesbian. I also want to experience that in a closed era, the outpouring of emotion between two people is so precious but so heartbreaking.

Beginning of the novel to cut into Therese. Her life was so unhappy about the gap between reality and the ideal. Originally, she was a theater designer. But in order to live, she starts to work in a department store as a temporary Seller at Christmas. She actually has a boyfriend Richard. But in the process of communication has not the feeling of love. Therese did not feel as a lesbian until met Carol. It is completely different with Richard, heartfelt and very strong feelings. Carol is a woman and her husband is divorcing. Therese and Carol feelings because of Christmas cards began to develop slowly.
