I consider myself as a reader in both Mandarin and English. In my childhood, reading was the most important way for me to explore the world. I was exposed to Chinese books since I was in the kindergarten. My dad is the person who led me to enter the world of reading. By the time he found that I can read, he started to borrow many classic literatures or stories from libraries for me. As a result, I quickly immersed myself in amazing plots, histories and knowledges. After I attended in elementary school, I built up the habit of borrowing piles of books from the library twice a month, and I also enjoyed the time that I shared my opinions about the books with my dad.
It wasn’t until high school that I became an English reader, because I met a friend who always recommended me a lot of English novels. However, at the same time, I started to decrease the quantity of extracurricular books I read, since I needed to spend more time preparing for the entrance examination. Fortunately, it didn’t cause me to lose the habit of reading. Reading is still an indispensable part in my life now.
The book that impressed me the most is Peaceful Warrior, written by Dan Millman. Actually, I was undergoing some pain caused by the relationships between people when I read this book. But the powerful insights in this book changed the way I looked at my life, and helped me to find the inner strength to face the struggles at the time. It said: A warrior’s life is not about imagined perfection or victory; it is about love. Love is a warrior’s sword; wherever it cuts it gives life, not death.” This book also reminded me to live in the moment and taught me the better way to connected to the world.
