The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
Author: Arthur Conan Doyle
The reason why I chose this book was that I
have watched some TV series and movies about Sherlock Holmes, but never did I read
the book. Coincidentally, a friend of mine gave me this book as my birthday
gift, so I decided to read it.
I have finished the first story-A Scandal in Bohemia. In this story, Sherlock was beaten by Irene Adler,
a witty woman that Sherlock honorably called “the woman”. Sherlock thought he had
won until he read the letter from Irene Adler. Things revered. Although Sherlock
figured out where she hid the photography, Irene noticed it at the same time. It
was the case that Sherlock didn’t solve completely because Irene still owned
the photography in the end.
In this story, it introduced the character of
Irene Adler, who had an impact on Sherlock. She changed Sherlock’s thoughts
toward women with her intelligence. Before Sherlock met her, he looked down on
women. I thought it reflected the situation in that generation. Also, I appreciated
the friendship between Sherlock and Dr. Watson. Though Dr. Watson got married,
he still came to visit Sherlock, and still solved the case with him regardless
of the danger they might encounter. what’s more, the cooperation between them
was awesome. Dr. Watson did every instruction that Sherlock had gave well, which
made Sherlock’s plans successful. Undoubtedly, they were the best partner ever!
I really love detectives! If possible, I would like to borrow it from you!
