My Reading History

   When recalling my reading history, it dates back to the time when I was three. The first step of reading is to learn to recognize words, so my mom started to teach me basic Chinese words when I was studying in the kindergarten. By the time I went to the elementary school, my mother began to read history stories to develop my reading habit. She often read a small part of the stories and then told my to read the rest of the parts by myself. My mom not only encouraged but required me to choose different categories of books to read. Because of her requirements, I was able to build my reading habit gradually.

   Personally, I think of myself as a reader in Mandarin compared to English reader. I usually have a good time reading Chinese novels, magazines, or books; however, I find myself  impatient when reading English ones. One of my favorite books is The Hunger Games. Whenever reading this book, I see the growth each character has made. The heart-twisted plots and the struggles Katniss(a main role) has encountered all allure me to read further. This novel includes relationships of lovers, family, friends and rivals. The biggest lesson I learned is that sometimes we have to make sacrifices for better life.

   I'm so lucky that my mom knows reading habit is very critical. She helped cultivate my reading habit from my childhood. Another reason why I think I am a reader is that I enjoy reading. I love to learn new knowledge through books. I can understand things that I have never truly experience. I have read diverse categories of books in my different ages, so there is a big shelve in my home which is full of tons of books. For example, books concerning fairy tales, romance novels, science fictions, crime novels, and so on.

   I love reading, but I seldom read since my senior high . Lots of academic assignments forced me to focus on curricular books instead of extracurricular reading materials. Besides, cell phones and computers have made me lose interests in books. However, deep inside my heart knows that I should rebuild the habit of reading. I really hope  I can regain the enjoyment of reading!
