The book I read
is The One, the third book of The Selection Series. It is a story where 35
girls compete in a selection that only one of them could be crowned as the wife
of prince Maxon. Now, six of them left for the competition.
What impressed
me the most is a conversation between America and Celeste. Celeste told America
that according to the statistics, America has the highest popularity in Maxon’s
heart as well as the citizens’. Also, Celeste feels downhearted to be unselected
by the prince not because she loves Maxon but what she wants is just fame.
When I finish
reading this conversation, the first thing comes to my mind is ‘Why can America
gain the heart of Maxon and the support and respect from the people?’ I think
about this question over and over. As I go back and read through the pages, I
notice the bravery and confidence of America. No matter how people criticized her,
no matter how king pressured her, she still chooses to speak up for her
thoughts and stands up for the citizens. Another reason why I think America
could be popular is because she keeps herself genuine in the competition with
intrigue. Unlike Celeste, she does not please Maxon purposely or with any kind
of calculating.
Sometimes in
our society, people need to hide their real personalities to fit in with others,
but after reading this novel, I think we could try to be ourselves and treat
people with our heart instead of wearing a mask of friendship. Since we only
live once, why do not we be ourselves and live a life that matches with our
heart?
