Book: Percy Jackson and the
Olympians----the Sea of Monsters
Author: Rick Riordan
Page: 100 pages
As a Greek
mythology lover, the books that I can never miss would absolutely be Percy Jackson series written by Rick
Riordan. Since I have already finished the first book, I am now reading the
second one of the series.
Percy Jackson is
a teenager who got in to so many problems in his school life. He never stayed in
the same school for over a year. However, this time in his seventh-grade, he
almost passed the whole year. Almost. The appearance of the monsters destroyed
his normal life again. They showed up suddenly in the gym and started playing
dodge ball with the students, dodge balls made with fire. Percy luckily survived
the attack with the help of his friend, his only friend in school named Tyson.
He was truly grateful for Tyson. Later on, Annabeth, Percy’s best friend in
Camp Half-Blood showed up and brought the bad news to him. It was at that time
when Percy knew that the border of Camp Half-Blood was in danger. The tree
protecting the camp was dying. At the same time, his nightmares about his
friend Grover kept making him worry. He should do something. Without
hesitation, Percy and his friends took the irregular taxi and headed to the
camp. On the taxi driven by three weird ladies, Percy found that Annabeth wasn’t
so nice to Tyson. He was furious since Tyson was the one who saved him at the
gym. During the long drive to the camp, Percy got some clues of saving the
camp.
By the time they
got to the camp, monsters had already been around. Percy helped the others to
combat. In the battle, Percy was saved again by Tyson. Surprisingly, Percy
found out that Tyson was a monster, a baby cyclops. Even worse, around the camp
fire at night, Poseidon claimed that Tyson was his son, Percy’s half-brother, which
made Percy embarrassed. Percy’s bad luck wasn’t going to stop. His mentor
Chiron was fired and the new director was a mean guy named Tantalus. Tantalus was
a crazy person who not only decided to hold the chariot game banned long ago
again but also took away the chance for Percy to go on a quest. Would Percy
sneak out to go on the quest himself even that would break the rules?
To me, the best
thing of reading Percy Jackson series
is that it combines Greek mythology and adventures. We love adventures since we
are not able to go ourselves. What’s more, we can feel the friendship that bond
different people. To help his friend, Percy would do everything. That wasn’t something
stupid or reckless, to me, this shows royalty, love and even sacrifice. I really
like the way the author make the characters alive. They are here, fighting to
save the world.
