Book: THE FAULT IN OUR STARS
Author: JOHN GREEN
Page: Chapter1-7
The
first seven chapters mainly talk about a girl named Hazel who has lung
problems. Her parents encourage her to go to church and attend the Support
Group in which most teenagers with other diseases or cancers are under eighteen
years old. The children share their experiences and personal condition
together. Later on, Hazel meets a boy whose name is Augustus Waters with whom
Hazel falls in love. Since Hazel is interested in the ending of the book “An
Imperial Affliction,” she would like to go to Amsterdam to meet the author,
Peter Van Houten, and Augustus is devoted to helping her.
The
most impressive sentences for me are said by Hazel to give courage to others in
Support Group. She says, “There will come a time when all of us are dead.......
And if the inevitability of human oblivion worries you, I encourage you to
ignore it. God knows that’s what everyone else does.” Since we don’t know when
we will die or what will come to us next moment, we need to seize every moment
and opportunity. Never have any regrets before we die. Also, “Without Pain, How
Could We Know Joy?” I cannot agree with this more. I have one friend who is
really afraid of speaking in class. However, due to the class assignment, she
struggled with it and practiced a lot. She conquered her fear and finally made
it. At that time, she burst out crying out of happiness since she originally
wanted to give up. However, she accomplished the task!
Since
the story between Hazel and Augustus occupies most of these seven chapters, I
start wondering if Hazel will go to Amsterdam and win over her illness in the
end.
