Book title: Wuthering Heights
Author: Emily Brontë
From chapter three to four, it began to reveal the past of Wuthering
Heights. Heathcliff was adopted by Mr. Earnshaw. Since he was Gypsy, Mrs. Earnshaw
and her son, Hindly disliked him very much. Hindly even bullied him. Unlike
Hindly, Catherine was thick with Heathcliff. Though Heathcliff was treated
badly, he seldom complained. Therefore, the maiden thought that Heathcliff was
not vindictive at all. However, she said she was deceived, and she would explain
it.
With
the reveal of past, it shows the problem of racial discrimination and gender
inequality. The book was a work of nineteenth century. Why do discrimination and
inequality still exist after two hundred years? Though human has great progress
in science and technology, it seems that our mind doesn’t follow up that progress
because we still think some races are privileged and men are more powerful than
women. How to effectively eliminate the two problems is worth being discussed.
