I have heard of Harper Lee, and her well-known composition, Go Set a Watchman, but I have never had the time to appreciate it. This book is the sequel of To Kill a Mockingbird, which Jerry has recommended to me. However, even the plot of Go Set a Watchman is about things happen 20 years after To Kill a Mockingbird, it is said to be the first draft of the later one.
I am excited to read this book since it is my first time to read a novel of this genre, it precisely reflects the issue mentioned in the first episode, rape and racial inequality. Lee also addresses issues of class, courage, compassion, and gender roles in the American Deep South.
In the first chapter, the protagonist, Jean Louis traveled from New York back to her hometown of Maycomb. There, She met her childhood company Henry, who she had adored for. Their relationship has developed widely, and Jean has to face the contradictory of her feeling.
Even though the journey of this reading has just begun, I have already been fascinated by the description of Lee's words. What's more, the title comes from Isaiah 21:6: "For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth." It implies Jean's view of her father, and the forecast that the it's going to be a disillusionment in the end.
