Log #3

In the last two blogs, I mentioned the chaos that foreign media (Rolling Stone Magazine and Daily Star Sunday newspaper) brought about. But in this blog, I would like to take an example of Taiwan media misleading people.

In 2013, Malaysia was scolded because of its terrible and unfair election. It was a global issue that many worldwide media paid attention to, reporting the elements and the consequences of the unjust election. However, only one thing that was reported in Taiwan media. It was reported that there were electricity blackouts during counting votes. If you google the keywords like馬來西亞 選舉 停電, it will show a lot of related news from different news agencies, and some of them are even famous. Interestingly, if you google those keywords in English, there is none of the foreign news related to the electricity blackout.

The rumor of electricity blackouts was spread on the Internet at first. Then the media started to report without testifying it, making the fake news spread more widely, like a snowball rolling bigger and bigger, and this is still a serious problem existing in the Taiwan media now. News agencies tend to get news from social networking services such as Facebook, Dcard, and others. However, instead of telling stories that are uncertain about the facticity, news should tell people the truth, telling people what really happen in the world.
