March
31st dose not only stands for the last day of March, but also
represents the International Transgender Day of Visibility. This day is an
annual holiday occurs on March 31st every year. It is held to
celebrate transgender people and raise people’s awareness toward this social issue.
Facing
a lot of discrimination for their gender identity, transgender people are now
asking people for the recognition they deserve. Although I had never been to
any march for LGBT, I know that there are so few marches for transgender
people. That is perhaps the reason why Rachel Crandall, a transgender activist,
founded a march especially for transgender people since 2009.
It
is really inspiring to know that someone had stood up for people unlike us. They
might be really different from us according to their gender identity. However,
there is no difference between us when it comes to the longing for respect.
Seeing
that the 9th International Transgender Day of Visibility is around
the corner, what can we do to help those who does not have the same respect as
we do? In my opinion, understand them, learn from them and befriend them no
matter who they are is the best way to show that you take them as a member with
the same right as you do.
As
for what are the transgender people working on? They are eager to get to the
next level -- from visibility to equality.
