Log #4

“Media plays a key role in helping to shape the way these identities are formed and enacted in society — throughout history, today and into the future.”

In the previous blogs, I took some examples about the fake news. In this blog, I will talk about the media accuracy. Just like the Academy Award winning actor Denzel Washington said, “If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed. But if you read the newspaper, you are misinformed.” Nowadays, there is too much information and easy to get it. It gradually becomes that speed is more important than accuracy. “What is the long term effect of too much information? One of the effects is the need to be first, not even to be true anymore. So what is the responsibility you all have? To tell the truth, not to just be first, but to tell the truth.” Reporters should put emphasis on the credibility instead of on the fastness. They should realize that what they report is so influential that it will affect people cognition. News should be tell the truth instead of telling stories.

Based on the article Critical thinking on the media’s messages, “The more active we are as consumers of media, the better.” As readers, we should identify and understand ourselves so that we can help us to understand how media messages feed into our lives. Instead totally relying on what news report, we should have our own thoughts and opinions, digging into the facts and exploring the world by ourselves. Don’t just read through the news, we should dig deeper and find it on more reliable sources.

Living in the society that is full of extensive information, it is really crucial for us to develop a skill to tell truths from lies.
