Shandra Woworuntu was a tough woman in my mind. To raise her daughter, she looked for a hotel job in America to earn money. Unfortunately, she was caught in a trap and imprisoned by sex traffickers. She was forced to sleep with several men. What’s worse, when there were no customers, sex traffickers would rape them. After Shandra Woworuntu tried so hard to escape from these traffickers, to my sadness, no one was willing to help her escape from the hands of these monsters. At last, she encountered a man listening to her story and seeking help from FBI to arrest these traffickers. Because of her own experience, she tried to raise awareness of the risks of coming to the US among people who still see this country as some kind of dream land. She decided to found an organization to protect the victims of sex trafficking.
I really respect her because after going through a lot of terrible experiences of having sex with strangers, she didn’t choose to kill herself; instead, she tried to bring these criminals into justice and found an organization to prevent other victims from having the same ordeal that no one wanted to assist them. In my perspective, telling the story of being treated as a sex slave is really hard for the victim because the nightmare will haunt the victim day and night. I really appreciate that she was willing to share her story with the public to let more people know how frightening sex trafficking was. I think everyone should pay attention to sex trafficking rather than be indifferent about it.
