Topic: Transgender After understanding what transgender really stands for, I started
digging into more background knowledge and history of it. Surprisingly, “transgender”
is not a new concept, rather, an old one.
Long before European has landed their footprints on the America,
transgender had already exists. However, due to the lack of words, the record
could only be traced back to the years when European documented the scenes they
saw in aborigines. The term those European used to describe this special role
is called “berdache.”
More interestingly, transgender also appeared in the ancient India,
where people were conservative. Hijra was the term used to describe those
people. Not to mention that there were even poets who wrote poems to record
these people.
However, this kind of gender is not widely accepted. Transgender
still faces a lot of problems and injustice. As a result, they had their own
march. The march is called “trans march”, which is often held in the Friday of
Pride Week( the week for LGBT people to stand up for themselves). Many people
would join the parade not only to convey their ideas but also to be more
visible to the world.
As far as I have read, most of people are still confused about the
difference between transgender and others. Furthermore, since the population of
transgender are not that much as Gay or Lesbian, people pay less attention on
them. After reading these articles (especially the one talking about Trump’s
opinion toward transgender), I will be willing to learn more about them.
