Book:A Christmas Carol
Author:Charles Dickens
This week I read a short story written by Charles Dickens called A Christmas Carol. Its a story about how Scrooge, the penny pincher, was visited by three different Christmas Ghosts:the ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present and the Ghost of Yet to Come.
The Ghost of Christmas Past took him back to his childhood, which was very poor and frustrated. This reminded him of how much care and love he had received when he was a little boy,as well as how he was treated as an apprentice.Such memories of the past led to his rethinking of the way he treats people around him at the very moment.
Whilst the Ghost of Christmas Present brought him to the image of one of his employees family Christmas party, who was unable to afford expensive decorations or lavish dinner, however, none of these prevented the whole family to hold their ability to stay happy and gay.
In the contrast, the Ghost of Yet to Come presented a horrible scene to Scrooge that due to his parsimony and acerbity he was lonely and helpless in his late years, with no one else to care about him.
After the 3 visits,he began to think about the meaning of receiving and giving and finally realized that giving was far more meaningful than receiving only. Therefore he made changes soon, which gave him the joy of being friendly and kind to others.
In my own opinion, apart from the comparison between giving and receiving, the eternal topic,I also noticed the significance of cherishing. We are what we have been experienced. So its rather important to cherish what we have gone through.Cauz they are all mirrors that can reflect our attitude towards the outside world back to ourselves.
Everyone spends their lifelong time to explore the true meaning for them to exist in the society and that seldom has something to do with money or position, but with the reflection of themselves on the world. To the very end of life, the satisfaction from inside heart is what lasts for long.
