Topic: Pressure of Senior High School Students from Taiwan and Japan

As most people know, the education system in Taiwan and Japan is about the same in most of the ways. I want to focus on the stress part of both Taiwan and Japan. Although most of us have the concept that Japanese students are having more pressure than in Taiwan, I am going to talk about my opinions.

From those two articles, I read about the credits minimum for graduating from senior high school. In Taiwan, a senior high school student requires at least 150 credits for them to graduate. However, in Japan, the students only need 80. It is approximately half of Taiwan’s. In fact, Japanese school even dismiss earlier than in Taiwan. You might be thinking how Japanese still has large pressure? It is because in Japan if a person want to enter a good and cheap university, which is a top public school, they have to work really hard. Then, what makes the difference between Taiwan and Japan?

Because I wondered about the differences in stress, I searched up more articles on it. I learnt that in the education system of Taiwan, the school clubs in high school are also count in as credits, but in Japan, it is not. That is why not everyone in Japan has to enter a club. In an article, it says that the Taiwanese students gain their pressure from the courses and the extra-curriculum.

In conclusion, I think Taiwanese students have a way-too-long school day since their extra-curriculum are so much and lead them to a situation where they got no enough time. This is what I think is the main reason of Taiwanese gaining pressure. Also, as I have mentioned, students from both Taiwan and Japan have pressure because of entering a good university. Every student in Taiwan is required to attend club, which many of them might not be so willing to, either because of no interested club or time for studying. Thus, I think the way of Japanese education is better in this part, because they put the club time after school and do not ask every student to attend. Student, then, can choose whether he or she wants to go home to study or to attend the clubs they like. Overall, what I think about the pressure of Taiwan and Japan is that our country could learn from Japan and cancel the requirement of attending clubs.
