Should zoos exist? Zoo are selling fairy tales.
To be frank, not until I read the article did I realize how cruel human beings could be. Since I was little, my parents, the media, the society had built a wonderful, beautiful image for zoos-- paradise for little, cute animals. They claimed in zoos you could see penguins elegantly swimming in the water, monkeys happily swaying between trees, pandas lovely playing with the cub. However, now I know these are only for marketing, for money-making. The so-called cute animals don't exist. In zoos I could only see the deprivation of freedom. The innocent animals are imprisoned in the name of education and conservation. But sadly they actually only serve to entertain people. Only few of the zoos keep their promise and will truly play the roles they should be.
Besides, zoos are too afraid to talk about the real thing. "We should not tell the Disney story that animals are only cute and only get born and never die." Instead, we should also let kids know death is a natural process in life. In so doing, we realize education but not only build an imaginary world which ends up deceiving.
After reading the related articles, I feel deeply sorry for the animals that are suffering now. Few people pay attention on this issue because we, human beings, are the one who have pushed them into the abyss. I feel so helpless and useless that I could make little change and I could not save those are in pain. But I am definitely willing to arouse people's awareness on this issue.
