Topic: Transgender
Our daily news are surrounded by LGBT
issues, parades and laws are no exception when this issue is concerned. Most of
us know what L, G, and B stand for. However, only few of us know what T
represents. It means “transgender.”
Transgender is the name for those whose gender
identity doesn’t match their biological sex. For instance, a child who was born
a girl but identified herself as a boy is that we call transgender. The difference
between transgender and lesbians or gays is that transgender include lesbians,
gays and even bisexuals. Some transgender would undergo plastic surgery in
order to become the gender they think they are born to be, those people are
called transsexual.
Although we may often misunderstand the definition
of transgender and transsexual, they are actually pretty different from each
other. Transsexual have the gender they want themselves to be, but transgender don’t.
Transgender is quite a big issue, but it is
rarely talked about in our country. Taiwan is still working on accepting gay
marriage and enacting laws to help them. In the meanwhile, people should start
thinking about the situation those transgender are facing. Only by
understanding more about the issue can we really know other people’s
circumstances.
