The Sound of Silence

Ever since the internet has developed even more rapidly than ever, modern people tend to ignore the actual content of a social event. This is we are living in a fast pace society, and we look forward to receiving instant messages from the publisher. Thus, we often neglect the content (or even the truth) and we gradually focus on what information of the "title" can transfer to us only.

Ever heard of "標題殺人法" before? It has become a worldwide, social phenomenon since many modern media intervened in the social network. Do not underestimate what these media/publishers can do. By means of "標題殺人法", they have the ability to fool viewers - misleading the viewers by telling a lie to the society - due to the fact that modern people believe in what they read with their first look, and they are too lazy to click the link and read through the whole content. What's even worse comes later.

There are more and more irresponsible people leave cynical comments which criticize the incident without paying any price. These comments are usually either harmful to the real victim or disgraceful, and other online users even support these comments by clicking "like" or tweeting these ideas. However, the most crucial factor that allows these phenomena is that no one stands up to against them. Users do not have the ability to stop these cynical comments from appearing because they all think it's either out of their range or not their business. This is when modern society becomes "silent".

Are there any possible ways to prevent these incidents from happening? I believe there is. According to Denzel Washington, the famous actor, he believes that "If you don't watch the news, you are uninformed; if you watch the news, you are misinformed". As global citizens, we are ought to filter the source of our information, so that we may have fewer opportunities to receive false messages from the media. Despite the fact that we cannot disconnect from the social network, we can still decide whether we believe in what we read or not.
